FreeCast is announcing the addition of HBCU GO to FreeCast’s line-up of free streaming television. Byron Allen’s Allen Media Group (AMG) free-streaming digital platform, HBCU GO is the leading media provider for the nation’s 107 Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs).
Formerly known as SelectTV, FreeCast has dropped its subscription paywall and now features hundreds of thousands of on-demand shows and movies, as well as hundreds of free ad-supported streaming channels, with premium features available via the FreeCast+ plan. HBCU GO joins those channels as the company continues to add content.
Launched in 2012, the free-streaming service HBCU GO was purchased by Byron Allen in 2021 and is part of Byron Allen’s Allen Media Group (AMG). HBCU GO was created to celebrate and share the legacy of our nation’s Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). The network distributes LIVE HBCU football games, a terrific college basketball lineup including Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC), Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC), and the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (CIAA) basketball games and a variety of programming around college life. The channel appeals to current students and alumni of HBCUs, and college sports fans of all ages and backgrounds.
Tracy West, FreeCast’s Executive Vice President of Digital Content and Channel Distribution, explained the value of specialty channels to the company’s strategy: “In ad-supported media, the key is understanding your audience: a more targeted advertisement is a more valuable advertisement, and a better experience for the viewer as well. By having popular channels that cater to specific interests and demographics, we are able to create value for our partners and keep our service free for consumers.”
