Taiwan Beats Showcase Shatters Records with Unbeatable Lineup at SXSW 2023

The event’s vibrant visual aesthetic, celebrating Taiwan’s unique identity, draws inspiration from the colorful palette of the “Ka-tsi bag” – a ubiquitous woven grocery bag found in traditional markets throughout Taiwan.

“Taiwan Beats Showcase” delivered an incredible night of music with a six-act lineup at the 2023 South by Southwest festival. Fans from all around descended upon Elysium on March 14th to witness captivating performances from LÜCY, The Chairs, deca joins, SiNNER MOON, 9m88, and Elephant Gym amidst a vibrant visual celebrating Taiwanese uniqueness. This year’s theme was inspired by the “Ka-tsi bag,” a woven grocery bag commonly seen in traditional markets in Taiwan. The event’s key visual celebrated this unique aesthetic by featuring Zhuyin phonetic symbols for TWB, adding a funky twist to “Taiwan Beats.” The night created quite a buzz, with fans lining up well into midnight!

LÜCY impressed the audience with her captivating music, featuring original tracks like “Cactus,” “Birds on the Telephone Pole,” and “EYE(s),” as well as a cover of Kate Bush’s “Running Up That Hill.” During this momentous occasion, the Chairs also wowed the crowd by dedicating a beloved classic – Paris, Texas’ inspired by its namesake film.

deca’s performance was even more memorable, with a surprise guest, Yokkorio, joining them on stage for a captivating rendition of “Wave.” SiNNER MOON’s inaugural North American show was nothing short of spectacular. The crowd responded uproariously to every song, singing in unison and cheering during his rendition of “Bleed it.”

At the crack of midnight, 9m88 electrified SXSW with a sizzling performance of her new album hits “Sleepwalking” and “Tell Me” alongside classics “Beyond Mediocrity” and “Waste Of Time.” Her return was so anticipated that The Austin Chronicle featured her as its paper edition Music Spotlight artist.

The night culminated in a surprise performance from 9m88 and Elephant Gym, collaborating on their popular track, “Shadow.” Despite facing a literal storm, Elephant Gym was determined to deliver their performance at Topshlelf Records’ Showcase the next day, making it one of their most memorable events ever!
