IBM partners with VMware, Microsoft to offer customers more choices

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK – VMware, which has a significant presence in the Triangle, is the latest tech player to partner with IBM as part of a move to give customers more choice when it comes to cloud computing. IBM also recently disclosed an expanded relationship with Microsoft focusing on artificial intelligence.

So what’s going on?

In an interview with tech news site CRN, Alan Peacock, IBM’s Cloud general manager, explains:

“Our goal is to make the IBM Cloud proposition the best on the planet, but we’re also a more open organization than historically. If clients have a preference to go run some of this stuff on another provider or on-prem, then we’re going to make that available. I think that that is definitely, on an IBM level, a differentiator for us.”

Peacock notes that he as a client would not “want to be forced down a certain route.”

IBM has its own big presence in the Triangle at one of its largest corporate campuses in RTP and also owns Raleigh-based Red Hat.
